SnxhitCodes - Devlog 0
Hello, people! It is I, Eniqma. Welcome to my page. This is the first post, and in this post, I’m gonna be talking about my game, Spirit Glider. This is technically a devlog, but I’m calling it devlog zero, because I've already worked on the game, quite a lot. And so, in this post, I’m just going to be discussing what I’ve done so far, and how I did it! So sit back, get a cup of coffee, and don’t spill it… I guess? Sigh
As you guys can see, the game has some pretty basic features right now, the player can move around, it can jump and dash, twice. Then, we have the platforms, they have rectangular hitboxes so that the player doesn’t pass right through them. Oh and also, BULLETS BABY, they aren’t really bullets, they’re like spells, or something. Then we have these plants and these little mushrooms, because everyone needs grass and mushrooms, obviously. At this point, you might be wondering, “Eniqma, why is everything so purple?”, to which, I say, I don't really know either! Air Horn At first, I started with purple grass thinking every level of the game would obviously need a theme, and then, as I went on, I just got lazy and “borrowed” the same color for all objects. Now, you might ask, what's this? It's a fairy. Oh, and, we also got these lil coin thingies, they allow you to jump around and stuff, so that's… cool… But you know why they are REALLY cool? Because they can do stuff like this: They can launch you into the air via chains made of these orbs!. Oh and, making these was quite complicated, and they’re still quite buggy right now. Here I got the code for these coins or orbs, even I don’t know what to call them. I’ll do my best to explain the code. Okay so, the code first fetches the data of the plasmaOrbs object from Tiled and- “shut up nerd”, wh- what was that? Well, anyways, as I was saying, it then converts all the- “Booooo”, Who is interrupting me, damnit! “Boooo, you nerd!!!” “You suck!!!!” . Okay, okay, I’m gonna stop boring you guys, and try my best to explain this as fast as possible. Code take object, convert object to orb, if touch orb, orb launch in air and destroy orb. Sigh. That's all for the features that are currently in the game. I also tried to implement parallax scrolling, and it went perfectly fine! Take a look at this! Uh, yeah… I also plan on implementing an enemy, and I already have the art for it, I just need to program its behaviour! After that, I'll make an actual level, so that the game has some actual gameplay. I’ve also made an Itch.io page for the game, and it’s currently live! Go comment on the page to give me extra motivation to make this game, people! Alright, let me know down below in the comment section if you guys need a more detailed overview of the actual code, and maybe i'll make a separate video detailing the code! That is it for devlog zero, I hope you guys enjoyed it, and had a fun time! Follow for more very cool content. Dm me on Discord for the Visual Studio Theme if you like it!
